There are many joys and challenges that come with being a member of an international company. Modern technology makes it possible to cross time zones and unite cultures to make Shearwater’s mission of “improving healthcare outcomes globally” possible. However, there is no replacement for in-person time, and it is always a great joy when team members from opposite offices can work together face-to-face. Recently, two of our U.S. team members, Chloe Cannone, Associate Director of Credentialing and Immigration, and Alli Vonder, Director of Operations, traveled to Shearwater’s Philippine office to meet their team members in person for the first time.
Chloe and Alli visited the Philippines for two weeks, where they could collaborate with their team and experience the culture. The main objective of their trip was to align processes, increase efficiency, and build relationships, with one week being set in the office and the other being spent on a team-building trip with the Evolution team. Chloe shared some of her perspectives on her trip and experience.
How do you view Shearwater’s mission differently after your visit?
“I saw our mission from a greater perspective, starting in the nurse’s home country. Our nurses are so gifted, and our team is working to equip them with their immigration and credentialing needs so they can focus on directly improving healthcare outcomes in both the Philippines and the United States.”
What was your favorite part of your experience?
“The Filipino culture is filled with so much love and joy, and my favorite part was socializing with our coworkers outside of the office. They hosted several dinners, lunches, and a movie night where we became friends with remote coworkers who we have worked with virtually for years. It was such a special experience!”
What was an unexpected part of your trip?
“I didn’t expect to feel so at home thousands of miles away from my U.S. home. I also did not expect to feel so close to the team after just one week of working together, but everyone was open and took advantage of the time we could spend with each other.”
What stood out to you the most?
“Being with the whole team and feeling the joy of working together was amazing; we all walked away on a very motivated note and had the most productive month after. I feel like that correlates with working as a team in person!”
While Shearwater’s offices are 8,000+ miles apart, experiences like this bridge the gap to reach our mission of improving healthcare outcomes globally. The Credentialing and Immigration team moves our nurses through the immigration process as efficiently as possible. They do a phenomenal job working virtually, but being able to unite the group was a beneficial learning experience for both sides.
